The BMW engined range rovers use a viscous fan for the primary cooling, there might be an electric one for the AC, I can’t remember.

Did I say it didn’t? We used it on this pass for gear reduction, no need to brake on the descents and you won’t bog down (ie: low rpm) on the climbs.

@@ForgottenWaypoints 2:55 in you said the V8 enjoys life at low rpm’s which was why you kept it in low. Maybe I misunderstood, no biggie. Does the GX also have that rock crawl mode, and do you use it? I find it too loud on my LX, but first gear low certainly slows me down on steep descents.

As often as possible! He took me to Moab when I was 8 years old….he always has a spot in my rigs (but usually he’s in his own!)

We've never run it for an extended period with the vehicle off, so I couldn't say. It's a pretty high draw though. We always just plug it in while we are on the road heading towards our lunch spot. It takes about 30 minutes in our experience to reheat your food.

I think the Disco 1 will outlive the Disco 2 by nature of being more rugged, more simple, and cooler engine management

Absolutely!! Obviously, skill plays a role, but the short wheelbase JL won’t be what trips you up! Sounds like an awesome ride!! There might be spots where you’ll want to take the bypass and/or use a spotter due to smaller tires. Be careful and you should be fine.

Absolutely!!! Rock sliders are really all you need for the really hard stuff, but trails like the potash road down shafer switchback would be a blast in a factory spec cruiser. Go to red rock 4wheelers website (rr4w.com) and look at trails rated 3 and under. You build could do 4s if you are experienced, but I’d want sliders.

Yeah, the gas mileage is an issue, even in the US. Not for range, but for cost per mile, especially with a roof rack!

It’s true! My brother in law is looking into getting another wk2, and my cousin owns 2. They are a great all around rig for a vast majority of public trails! I’m glad you enjoy yours!

@BackroadExploration , I think I’m keeping this one stock. All I have is e rated tires and sliders, keeping the lift off I still get 20mpg (20+ highway) and the factory suspension flies over easy trails. On anything that’s more technical or I need a heavier payload, the LX is a better tool.

You'd get a significantly more nimble and maneuverable platform!

Didn’t sell my JK. Bought my 04 Flame Red Rubicon back from the guy I sold it to 13 years ago. Only 73k miles on it.

@@tz230 , Getting the rig that's in good shape these days is the hardest part. After that, you can pretty much just order lifts and wheels and rock sliders. (not to mention maintenance) You are probably into it $10k if you install it and do the maintenance yourself (which I did).

@@damiansmith391, It's a 2.5" lift. The Icon wheels give me a good offset. I have to hammer the pinch weld to clear the 33.8s, and sometimes I get a minor rubbing at full lock on the passenger side. It's not rubbing on the body, but the plastic liner that you have to use a heat gun to push back after hammering the pinch weld. I must not have done a good job on that one. I need to pin it back, but I just deal with it. I believe with adjustable upper control arms I could eliminate it altogether, but it's not enough of an issue for me to spend the $$ on it.

I actually lowered the front of my LX by 1"+ compared to my earlier videos and I've been more impressed having additional droop than lift.

I had too, my hands aren’t small enough. You probably can access it though from underneath. You had to pull the fan for filming though.

Hahah! You are absolutely correct! I quit using it because it charges so slow and heats up the battery. It can't be good for battery life! My sunglasses case live in there now, all my charging is done with the USB!

Good eye! A few things going on here: 1) The JL had KM3s the JK and LX were on KO2s. I can't remember the pressures, but they were all similar. I started with a higher pressure as I wanted to see how the LX performed. Then forgot to drop it. After reviewing the footage, I clearly had room on the sidewall to drop pressure and it definitely would have helped. I'd probably run 18-20psi next time, depending on how much overland gear I'm carrying. 2) The Jeeps were locked front and rear, and this video crystal clearly shows why mechanical lockers are superior to electronic traction control in technical rock crawling terrain once you jump past the 5 rated trails. I've since added a rear locker to the LX and am dying to go back. 3) I'm a solid axle guy. The T-bars on the LX were cranked too high with too-much preload. I'm confident this caused some of the porposing too as I had no droop. I've since dropped the front of the LX by 1-1.5" and it's much better. 4) I've had a lot of comments that my driving "sucks". That's ok, but those familiar with the trail know I"m purposely outclassed and the video footage of the LX was indeed ugly. I've done the trail multiple times, including an unlocked ZJ grand Cherokee (shown in the golden crack section), so I know how it should "look". Which is one reason I'm itching to go back, even if I don't have the front locker yet. 5) The trail did prove the durability of the LX. I was pretty sure I'd snap a CV, or worse strip the front diff. Either were a possibility. I got lucky. Maybe when I go back, I won't be so lucky? Thanks for watching!! It was so much fun to make that short series.

@@ForgottenWaypoints Thanks for the thoughtful response. There will always be someone posting snarky comments. Usually someone who has never attempted something similar in a rig like yours. I wonder if the grippier compound on the KM3s also helped vs the KO2s? That said, I run KO2s and love them. I do go down to 15 psi offroad which has worked well for me. I just swapped out the AHC for an Ironman lift and I am worried about the T-bars being quite stiff. I know some folks just run the stock ones which I might do if the beefier Ironman ones end up being too stiff on the trails. I have yet to try them though.

@@etb4272 , you will definitely have better grip than me at 15psi. I can't speak for the KM3s, but my brother-in-law absolutely loves them. I think the performance is really close. Check out my Rose Garden Hill video for more comparisons of my dad's (JK, KO2) and my BIL (JL, KM3) in action. We were learning the JL at this time and didn't realize if you were in Drive in 4Lo it won't use 1st gear, so you aren't at max crawl ratio. My dad did know this on his JK, which in my opinion is the edge (gearing, not tires) in the difference in climbing up the hill. Both rigs did well, I would put the edge on KM3s, personally, but they are $$!

Yeah, they are stupid awesome, but they are also stupid maintenance intensive. Reliable, sure! but every 100k miles it's costs a bit to get it back up to snuff. So if you missed one on auction, just tell yourself it was a "money pit" and look for the next one!

@ForgottenWaypoints In part 1 of my video about driving to the Twin Crater Lakes I asked if anyone knew where the name "Mytoge" came from. I received a comment that it mean "Moon". The commentor referenced a book titled "Utah Place Names" published in 1990. The origin was Native American but it was unknown which specfic group it was.
